{"id":858,"date":"2012-07-22T19:58:37","date_gmt":"2012-07-22T23:58:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/?p=858"},"modified":"2012-07-22T19:59:08","modified_gmt":"2012-07-22T23:59:08","slug":"once-upon-a-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/2012\/07\/22\/once-upon-a-time\/","title":{"rendered":"Once upon a time&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Once upon a time a woman decided to start writing a blog\u2026.called Ordinary Legacy.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s pretty cool.\u00a0 It\u2019s about the everyday, the ordinary little things and thoughts and feelings that make up a life.\u00a0 It\u2019s mostly about her life, because that\u2019s what she knows best, but she includes bits and pieces from all her experiences which obviously include other people.\u00a0 She believes that most lives are ordinary but the residual effects of those lives have the potential to leave an extraordinary legacy. \u00a0\u00a0With me so far?\u00a0 One of these days she is hoping to retire from the really cool job she has now and expand Ordinary Legacy into a book or seminars or who knows what possibilities there might be.\u00a0 Still with me?\u00a0 That would require that people know about it\u2026.and are open to it\u2026..and are already talking about it. \u00a0That, in the world of what\u2019s happening at this very moment, is called a platform. \u00a0She\u2019s writing, because she loves it and has something to say, and to build a platform so people can hear it.\u00a0 How the hell does one do that?<\/p>\n<p>Well, first by getting people to read the blog.\u00a0 Third base\u2026.<\/p>\n<p>Her people can subscribe to the blog by giving their email address.\u00a0 How fabulous is that?\u00a0 You can get the post right there in your mailbox each time she hits <strong><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">publish<\/span><\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 If they like the post they can FORWARD it to their friends and ask them to subscribe. And so on and so on\u2026she can then see on her site stats how many people are following her blog through email.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/subscribe.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-860\" title=\"subscribe\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/subscribe.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"246\" height=\"224\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Then there is the ubiquitous Facebook which many of her fans don\u2019t really get\u2026 Just sayin.\u00a0 If you choose to go to www.ordinarylegacy.com to read the post you will find at the end of every post, I mean every post, never missed one yet:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/share-this.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-861\" title=\"share this\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/share-this-300x45.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"45\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/share-this-300x45.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/share-this.jpg 310w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This will put the link and the picture and the title of the post on YOUR WALL.\u00a0 Translation; all your 597 friends will see that you are reading Ordinary Legacy.\u00a0 If you put a comment like, <strong><em>I enjoy reading this really cool blog<\/em><\/strong> then maybe they will too\u2026..just sayin.<\/p>\n<p>So every time she posts to her blog, she also shares the post on the Ordinary Legacy Fan page on Facebook.\u00a0 Have you been there?\u00a0 When you\u2019re on Facebook just go to search and type in Ordinary Legacy, its the first thing to come up, give it a click and\u00a0it will take you right there, no problem.\u00a0 Works every time and if you think the Fan page is cool, you should hit\u2026wait for it&#8230;LIKE, which you see below, I\u2019ve already done.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/fan-page-screen-shot1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-869\" title=\"fan page screen shot\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/fan-page-screen-shot1-300x179.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"179\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/fan-page-screen-shot1-300x179.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/fan-page-screen-shot1-500x298.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/fan-page-screen-shot1.jpg 626w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The more people who like the fan page, the bigger her platform begins to grow.\u00a0 Whew it\u2019s tough this platform building thing.<\/p>\n<p>To make it even tougher, and this is where she loses a lot of her friends.\u00a0 There is a difference, a big difference, HUGE difference between LIKE\u00a0and SHARE\u00a0\u00a0on an individual timeline entry.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/post-screen-shot.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-864\" title=\"post screen shot\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/post-screen-shot-300x245.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"245\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/post-screen-shot-300x245.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/post-screen-shot-366x300.jpg 366w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/post-screen-shot.jpg 425w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Stay with me now it\u2019s not really all that hard.\u00a0 If you LIKE\u00a0an individual entry (Thanks Liz, you&#8217;re the best), that\u2019s really nice and it makes a person feel really good, but no one knows about it, just the person.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t go anywhere, it stays right there on the timeline and well it\u2019s nice, really.\u00a0 No growth, no platform anything.\u00a0 But it\u2019s nice, really.<\/p>\n<p>However, if you SHARE\u00a0and put in that same comment; <strong><em>I enjoy reading this really cool blog, <\/em><\/strong>then guess what happens?\u00a0 Your 597 friends will see this on your timeline and maybe, just maybe, take a click over to Ordinary Legacy and subscribe or SHARE\u00a0with their 257 friends and so on and so on and so on.<\/p>\n<p>From there a platform is born and the potential of Ordinary Legacy grows by leaps and bounds.\u00a0 Pretty soon the woman can just keep writing and stop worrying about whether or not her retirement from her really cool job will transition into another really cool job blogging about ordinary people leaving extraordinary legacies\u2026like hers.<\/p>\n<p>Notice there is never a mention of what might happen if you think the blog sucks&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>She could just live happily ever after, just sayin.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Once upon a time a woman decided to start writing a blog\u2026.called Ordinary Legacy.
