I have rituals and traditions.\u00a0 I drink my coffee on the beach each morning because there is nowhere else it tastes better or cools off to just the right temperature.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/cape-6-2016002\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2887 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/cape-6-2016002-400x400.jpg\" alt=\"cape 6-2016002\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/cape-6-2016002-400x400.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/cape-6-2016002-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/cape-6-2016002-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/cape-6-2016002-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We have a routine, our morning walk on the beach, journal writing, photo walks, the farmers market and spending time with friends.<\/p>\n<p>It seems I come by this honestly.\u00a0 My grandmother, my father\u2019s mother insisted that she be taken to the sea at least once a year.\u00a0 She needed the sea air, needed it. I never understood it until it crept into my own life.\u00a0 I must always get back to it.\u00a0 The smell of salt air and cedar are life sustaining to me.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s my hope to get back and never leave at some point, I feel that coming closer and closer each time I find it harder and harder to return, even to my beloved Stowe Lane.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/cape-6-2016004\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2886 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/cape-6-2016004-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"cape 6-2016004\" width=\"584\" height=\"584\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/cape-6-2016004-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/cape-6-2016004-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/cape-6-2016004-400x400.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/cape-6-2016004-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For those of you that believe I\u2019m idealizing the Cape, the sea, the way my hair feels and the way my skin turns bronze and the way all my aches and pains disappear even though I\u2019m sleeping in a completely different bed you\u2019re wrong.\u00a0 Your opinions are appreciated but I get it that life goes on wherever one ends up evidenced in the fact that I\u2019ve ended up on Stowe Lane.\u00a0 I get that you arrive with all of your stuff and your work and your imaginings, I\u2019m under no delusions that a place changes things.<\/p>\n<p>My work is becoming more and more solitary, the changes in the industry are taking care of themselves we are no longer that upstart company with an entrepreneurial spirit. I\u2019m no longer interested in being the inherent dowager queen or a formidable force. \u00a0When I think of the word retirement I know I won\u2019t stop working but I\u2019ll be doing joyous work, teaching, writing, gathering and preserving stories.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/2016\/06\/26\/back-where-i-belong\/cape-6-2016011\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2891\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2891 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/cape-6-2016011-333x400.jpg\" alt=\"cape 6-2016011\" width=\"333\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/cape-6-2016011-333x400.jpg 333w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/cape-6-2016011-853x1024.jpg 853w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/cape-6-2016011-250x300.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/cape-6-2016011.jpg 896w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 333px) 100vw, 333px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The people who so desperately needed me are standing so beautifully on their own, my obligations to others are becoming fewer and fewer and my responsibility to myself is gaining momentum. I am looking ever forward to getting back to the sea for good where I can be that woman in the neighborhood, the gardener, the writer, the teacher, the woman whose home is always wafting the neighborhood with delicious aromas and who can always be counted on for a laugh or a listen.\u00a0 I am seeking perhaps what Socrates asked for in the prayer from the Phaedrus when he said, &#8220;May the outward and inward man be one.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I am looking forward\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cDon&#8217;t wish me happiness I don&#8217;t expect to be happy all the time&#8230; It&#8217;s gotten beyond that somehow.
