Not too much. Mostly plants.\u201d \u00a0Michael Pollan<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s pretty much what it comes down to but somehow life gets in the way.\u00a0 Enter a little fireball named June with a quick wit and a way of pausing before giving you the answer to some questions you never even knew you had and you start to put things in perspective. Because yes that\u2019s another thing it comes down to.\u00a0 What is it?\u00a0 One\u2019s relationship with food of course. Because it\u2019s never about the food and yet it\u2019s always about the food\u2026 How the hell to get around that lovely paradox.<\/p>\n<p>Agatha Christie once said \u201cwhen engaged in eating, the brain should be the servant of the stomach.\u201d\u00a0 For me it was not about the eating but about the hunger recognition which led to a scene out of a Snickers commercial.\u00a0 I can go until I\u2019m shaky, sweaty and hangry so consider yourself forewarned. \u00a0\u00a0The number one way to start dissecting the paradox is to reset the barometer by listening to your needs, what a concept.<\/p>\n<p>There is a hunger scale that starts at you\u2019re so hungry you\u2019ll eat anything and goes through to you\u2019re painfully full and may even feel sick.\u00a0 Throughout our weekend at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitwoman.com\/science-of-healthy-weight-loss\/\">Green Mountain at Fox Run <\/a>we were privy to the pendulum effect.\u00a0 There is a balance to everything they give you but a recognition that you\u2019re probably not operating in that balance.\u00a0 The hunger scale is a perfect example, balance begins at you feel you\u2019re getting hungry and it\u2019s time to think about what to eat and ends at totally satisfied; hunger is gone and you won\u2019t be hungry for hours.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/2015-01-30-12.09.25-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2391\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/2015-01-30-12.09.25-2-1024x678.jpg\" alt=\"2015-01-30 12.09.25-2\" width=\"400\" height=\"265\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/2015-01-30-12.09.25-2-1024x678.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/2015-01-30-12.09.25-2-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/2015-01-30-12.09.25-2-453x300.jpg 453w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>What they provide are delicious meals, snacks, a hunger hutch, amazing well water from the tap, coffee, tea and condiments.\u00a0 What they don\u2019t provide is a list of what you should and shouldn\u2019t eat.\u00a0 People come looking to be told what to eat, to be controlled in what they think is an uncontrollable situation.\u00a0 But at GMFR they are not the boss of you\u2026you can be trusted, you know yourself better than they do, you are in charge of your own possibilities.<\/p>\n<p>What they also provide is the science you need to understand your gut, your relationship with food and the food itself.\u00a0 Michael Pollan also said, you are what what you eat eats.\u00a0 Do you know what you\u2019re eating eats?\u00a0 Cheetos never ate anything\u2026see what they\u2019re saying.\u00a0 A fabulous Vermont Cheddar on the other hand\u2026<\/p>\n<p>I am a foodie and a fabulous cook.\u00a0 I have never been one for Cheetos or any really highly processed foods.\u00a0 My sister lovingly\u2026refers to me as Sister Nuts and Berries but even with real food you can get to that point of overeating because you\u2019ve starved yourself albeit unknowingly.\u00a0 And speaking of starving yourself, do you know what your body does when it doesn\u2019t know when it\u2019s going to get its next meal?\u00a0 It SAVES EVERYTHING\u2026.can a sista win?<\/p>\n<p>Yes, a sista can win through mindful eating:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tune into your hunger and appetite.<\/li>\n<li>Focus on the food and how you feel as you eat.<\/li>\n<li>Be aware of the aroma and appearance of the food. If you don\u2019t like it stop eating it.<\/li>\n<li>Eat slowly and savor each bite chewing thoroughly and concentrate on taste, temperature and texture.<\/li>\n<li>Check your level of fullness and degree of satiety. Check for the pause, if you put your fork down check in.<\/li>\n<li>Enjoy the eating experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Think it\u2019s going to happen overnight?\u00a0 Ruth Reichl said in Delicious, \u201cI am telling you that if things can change for the worse, the opposite is also true. You must accept those moments, experience them, and let them go. Because if you allow yourself to get stuck in that minute, nothing will ever change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Three weeks later I continue to process all the glorious information we received and put it to use as well as I can. I balance my carbs and my proteins and eat a ton more plants.
