Perry<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sometimes the most beautiful pieces of furniture are the ones that show their age.\u00a0 Call them antiques, call them vintage.\u00a0 You can see many different layers of paint, the different colors begin to show through and there are bare spots where people have rubbed against them over and over and over.\u00a0 This is called patina.\u00a0 Patina can happen naturally over time or can be artificially imposed on a piece.\u00a0 Either way it\u2019s beautiful but mostly in the eye of the beholder who appreciates it.<\/p>\n<p>I am lucky enough to do my work at what was once my grandmother\u2019s kitchen table.\u00a0 It now resides in my office and I love every inch of it.\u00a0 It hasn\u2019t been painted in years and the rubbings and chips are what give it patina.\u00a0 When I pull out the hidden cutting board I can get an idea of what her kitchen must have looked like by the remnants of color.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/2015-01-23-14.21.54.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2228\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/2015-01-23-14.21.54-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"2015-01-23 14.21.54\" width=\"400\" height=\"265\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/2015-01-23-14.21.54-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/2015-01-23-14.21.54-1024x678.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/2015-01-23-14.21.54-453x300.jpg 453w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Humans too have patina.\u00a0 Theirs are the wrinkles, the thinning hair and silver highlights.\u00a0 These are the layers of human patina.\u00a0 There isn\u2019t a person in the world that sets out to artificially impose this patina on themselves, rather they seem to do anything they can to prevent this natural appearance.\u00a0 This is legacy\u2019s roadmap etched by laughter and tears, prosperity and hardship and well\u2026life. Your story will show up as your own personal patina.\u00a0 I hope you will learn to embrace it and find it beautiful.<\/p>\n<p>The Velveteen Rabbit said it best:\u00a0 Still Beautiful &#8211; &#8220;Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes don&#8217;t see as well and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. \u201cBut these things don&#8217;t matter at all, because once you are Real you can&#8217;t be ugly, except to people who don&#8217;t understand&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Ida-Ravioli-111.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2230\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Ida-Ravioli-111-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"Ida Ravioli (111)\" width=\"300\" height=\"453\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Ida-Ravioli-111-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Ida-Ravioli-111-678x1024.jpg 678w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Today I had the privilege of spending the day with my dear friend\u2019s family making ravioli and getting a glimpse into their lives.\u00a0 They welcomed me into their home with my camera and my curiosity and I am enormously grateful.\u00a0 I hope to post their story shortly but for now, know that the board for making the ravioli has seen hundreds, if not thousands, of them and the ravioli maker is one of the loveliest women I\u2019ve ever met.\u00a0 Both are beautiful evidenced that patina of the most genuine nature is stunning and will leave its story on your heart.\u00a0 It\u2019s Real.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Age should not have its face lifted, but it should rather teach the world to admire wrinkles as the etchings of experience and the firm line of character. &#8212; Ralph B.
