{"id":2182,"date":"2014-12-21T18:16:56","date_gmt":"2014-12-21T23:16:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/?p=2182"},"modified":"2016-12-21T17:19:52","modified_gmt":"2016-12-21T22:19:52","slug":"welcome-winter-winter-solstice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/2014\/12\/21\/welcome-winter-winter-solstice\/","title":{"rendered":"Welcome Winter, Winter Solstice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Winter-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2179\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Winter-1-1024x680.jpg\" alt=\"Winter (1)\" width=\"400\" height=\"266\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Winter-1-1024x680.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Winter-1-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Winter-1-451x300.jpg 451w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Today marks the beginning of Winter, dreaded by many but embraced by some, like me.\u00a0 There is something about the long nights and the quiet and the way the sun looks through the bare trees that I love.\u00a0 I love burrowing into my home, I might have mentioned that.\u00a0 I particularly love the solstice when it falls on a weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Today is that day between the holidays when people are bustling to get things done or share the things they\u2019ve already done.\u00a0 It\u2019s anticipatory and celebratory and just a bit arduous.\u00a0 So today I put the fruit cake in the oven knowing full well that I\u2019ve got over an hour to myself.\u00a0 It\u2019s an overcast day but not too cold, just bracing enough for a brisk walk\u2026with a camera.<\/p>\n<p>There is something about the sky in winter that I love, silhouetted with a back drop of sun\u2026sometimes for just a minute.\u00a0 I\u2019m not opposed to the dark, as a matter of fact I\u2019m pretty sure that everyplace I\u2019ve ever lived could be considered an \u201cevening\u201d home.\u00a0 Evening homes tend to be dark and lend themselves to wonderful lighting with lamps and candles and softness. \u00a0Clark Strand wrote a wonderful piece about the solstice and the dark in Friday\u2019s New York Times that I found very interesting.\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cTomorrow is the winter solstice, the longest night of the year. But few of us will turn off the lights long enough to notice.
