{"id":1914,"date":"2014-06-08T09:39:52","date_gmt":"2014-06-08T13:39:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/?p=1914"},"modified":"2014-08-04T18:15:14","modified_gmt":"2014-08-04T22:15:14","slug":"good-company","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/2014\/06\/08\/good-company\/","title":{"rendered":"Good Company"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1915\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/DSC_7875-1024x643.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_7875\" width=\"584\" height=\"366\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/DSC_7875-1024x643.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/DSC_7875-300x188.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/DSC_7875-477x300.jpg 477w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/DSC_7875.jpg 2027w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My idea of good company is the company of clever, well-informed people, who have a great deal of conversation; that is what I call good company.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jane Austen (1775 &#8211; 1817)<\/strong>, <em>Persuasion, 1818<\/em><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019ve got to be in the car for anything over five hours it helps to have a light at the end of the tunnel that isn\u2019t a train\u2026just sayin.\u00a0 When the day is done and your meetings went very well and you\u2019re ready to kick back it\u2019s especially nice to do it in good company.\u00a0 That usually means someone who can just welcome you and live in plan B for a tiny period of time.\u00a0 Someone who can take time out of their own routine to insure your visit is delightful, I call that a good friend.<\/p>\n<p>A really good friend will walk with you to get the blood circulating again, hand you a glass of wine and just wait for the exhale.\u00a0 Walk a bit more to eat with you in a fabulous restaurant exploring the menu and taking a chance on something that might not be familiar.\u00a0 Lingering over the meal and the wine\/martinis and catching up on all that we may have missed over the last few years that life has gotten in the way of seeing each other more often.\u00a0 It\u2019s a rich conversation, a funny conversation, a smart and poignant conversation that seems like we\u2019ve never missed a beat. How I love a good conversation that defies the boundaries of time.<\/p>\n<p>Continue on to something sweet at the bar, of course, and laughs and giggles with the bartender, when was the last time I remember doing that? Jeez.\u00a0 Still not tired still chatting still laughing, thoughtful moments with tears on the brink but never spilling over; this is a true catch up.<\/p>\n<p>The next morning explore the city from a native\u2019s perspective finding more and more in common among the people we meet and each other.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/media\/set\/?set=a.787551181278608.1073741846.198904976809901&amp;type=1\">Camera in hand, capturing our time together<\/a>, even on a no makeup Friday, enjoying the glorious weather and the history that is Old City Philly we promise to keep in better touch.\u00a0 This was too much fun not to.<\/p>\n<p>There are people that come into your life and immediately make themselves indispensable, who understand that legacy means living your life the way you want your story told.
