{"id":1820,"date":"2014-03-09T18:53:32","date_gmt":"2014-03-09T22:53:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/?p=1820"},"modified":"2014-03-09T18:57:03","modified_gmt":"2014-03-09T22:57:03","slug":"time-passages","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/2014\/03\/09\/time-passages\/","title":{"rendered":"Time Passages"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><i>\u201cI avoid looking at the clock, fearing the slow passing of time that will only seem slower if I watch its progress.\u201d Michelle Zink<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Except for today, of course.\u00a0 I know you think this is going to be my annual \u201cI want my hour back\u201d rant but not so much this year.\u00a0 I have to say there were a few very profound happenings this week that seemed to wake (yeah I know) my ass up.<\/p>\n<p>First and foremost my dear friend Paul sent a wonderful email (after attending a school presentation by his daughter Greta) entitled The Secret of Time:<\/p>\n<p><i>Today the 4<sup>th<\/sup> grade classes at Race Brook School presented their research and enactments of famous people in history.\u00a0 Our Greta was Betsy Ross, and aside from the great job she did on her research and memorizing her speech, she personified the most famous flag maker from Philadelphia perfectly.\u00a0 She even answered questions about Betsy in first person, and was very proud by how impressed everyone was with the flag that she had sewn on her very own \u201creal\u201d sewing machine that she got for Christmas.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Greta-As-Bestsy-Ross.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1819\" alt=\"Greta As Bestsy Ross\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Greta-As-Bestsy-Ross-224x300.jpg\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Greta-As-Bestsy-Ross-224x300.jpg 224w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Greta-As-Bestsy-Ross.jpg 614w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 224px) 100vw, 224px\" \/><\/a><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Most of all she\u00a0tested Dad\u2019s ability to keep smiling and not succumb to the urge to burst into tears.\u00a0 There\u2019s a very fine line between being happy to be alive, and becoming overwhelmed by the realization of riches that have been bestowed upon us, and just how precious each day is.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><strong><i>Now the secret of life is enjoying the passage of time.\u00a0 James Taylor<\/i><i> <\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Somehow Paul always has something happening with his family in March.\u00a0 It\u2019s a time I walk softly and carefully and sensitively lest I fall on my knees from missing my Father.\u00a0 He\u2019s gone nine years already. Already? See what I mean about the passage of time.\u00a0 Anyway, each March my friend Paul elaborates on something that he is doing to cement his legacy to his family.\u00a0 More so, I see him creating \u201cfather\u2019s daughters\u201d and I couldn\u2019t be happier.\u00a0 For them and for him.\u00a0 It gives me strength to watch a Father bring everlasting memories to the children in his life.\u00a0 I remain in awe of him.\u00a0 And I appreciate his sharing me right through the end of March.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/DSC_3510.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1818\" alt=\"DSC_3510\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/DSC_3510-300x254.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"254\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/DSC_3510-300x254.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/DSC_3510-1024x867.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/DSC_3510-354x300.jpg 354w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/DSC_3510.jpg 1059w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To add to the family theme I was honored to attend my dear friend Cookie\u2019s\u00a0grandchild&#8217;s baby shower.\u00a0 Baby Cook.\u00a0 So, of course, I did what I do in all matters Cookie, I hid behind the camera for fear of becoming a whimpering nut to capture the day and regret that he was not a physical part of it.\u00a0 It was beautiful, she is beautiful, they will carry on the family name in some way (the baby\u2019s sex is a surprise!) with notions of Cookie in the back of their minds.\u00a0 This is the most validating indication of the passage of time, it\u2019s natural and beautiful and fulfilling for legacies both past and present.<\/p>\n<p>Later\u00a0Muriel and I actually howled telling stories of when they were all kids and how her Father\u2019s memory lives on and on and on.\u00a0 Ironically it was a story of a family tree.\u00a0 Truth, my friends, remains stranger (and a helluva lot funnier) than fiction.<\/p>\n<p>So this morning I awoke missing an hour.\u00a0 I walked the girls, made my coffee and treated myself kindly.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t piss and moan once about losing my hour.\u00a0 Nicely my sister (who has lived with the rant far longer than anyone) brought me a wonderful gift of lox for my Sunday bagel and it was a delicious treat.\u00a0 I\u2019ll never get this particular hour back, but I must say after this very long, very cold, very snowy winter I am thrilled to be writing this with sun still shining and Spring on the way.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/DSC_3132.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1817\" alt=\"DSC_3132\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/DSC_3132-214x300.jpg\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/DSC_3132-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/DSC_3132-733x1024.jpg 733w, https:\/\/www.ordinarylegacy.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/DSC_3132.jpg 1488w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 214px) 100vw, 214px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>No, I won\u2019t get this hour back but I will get an hour back.\u00a0 What a gift to look forward to:<\/p>\n<p><strong><i>Time does not pass, it continues\u201d \u00a0\u00a0Marty Rubin<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cI avoid looking at the clock, fearing the slow passing of time that will only seem slower if I watch its progress.\u201d Michelle Zink Except for today, of course.\u00a0 I know you think this is going to be my annual &hellip;
