Things happen.\u00a0 Sometimes you find yourself in a compromised position and you trust your brain to generate the truth. Sometimes you actually believe that truth.\u00a0 Sometimes you know you\u2019ve just lied and you can justify it somehow.\u00a0 Sometimes it doesn\u2019t sit right with you and it keeps you up at night.\u00a0 You haven\u2019t hurt anyone.\u00a0 It was a lie of convenience and since no one else but you knows, it\u2019s fine. Right?<\/p>\n

Yeah, not so much.\u00a0 I found myself in this position just recently.\u00a0 It has been bothering me but somehow I just couldn\u2019t bring myself to give it up. I didn\u2019t hurt anyone, I don\u2019t think.\u00a0 But I lied about something that would make me look good for maybe a minute.\u00a0 So did looking good for that minute make me feel any better.<\/p>\n

Yeah, not so much.\u00a0 I actually heard myself tell the lie and thought what the hell are you doing?\u00a0 But once it\u2019s out it\u2019s out and you can\u2019t take it back.\u00a0 You can let it die a natural death but it\u2019s out there.\u00a0 So you tuck it away in the back of your mind and you\u2019re done with it.\u00a0 You won\u2019t do THAT again.\u00a0 After all you\u2019re building a legacy here.\u00a0 But it stays there and every once in a while it comes to the forefront and says remember me?<\/p>\n

Yeah, I remember you. Just when you think it will be with you the rest of your life (very dramatic I know and believe me it\u2019s a pretty tiny lie) something intervenes and allows you to pay for it.\u00a0 Literally, with gratitude and finality.\u00a0 It\u2019s done, you\u2019ve made it right and you know like you know you\u2019ll never do that again.<\/p>\n

On the eve of Yom Kippur sometimes even the Goy are awarded the chance to atone. Thank God.<\/p>\n
