The Stopped School Bus

On my way to work this morning I was stopped for a school bus.  All the children got on but the red lights didn’t go out.  The mothers were chatting with the school bus driver while we all waited to proceed.  You’re kidding me!

Finally, the red lights went out and we moved along.  As I passed the bus I noticed the mothers were still chatting but what was more striking to me, what gave me pause, was the makeup of the group.  The bus driver was a Muslim woman, the two mothers who had dropped off their children were Asian and Latino.  It seemed as though their conversation came easy, it was collaborative and genuine.

There on a street corner the perfect world microcosm existed.  It occurred to me that mothers all over the world, given the right street corners, could solve it all and find peace. Love that, worth the wait.
